Tarifa and its nightlife

Tarifa is the southernmost town in Europe and has spectacular views of Gebel Mousa across the water in Morocco. This mountain and the rock of Gibraltar were described by the Greeks as the pillars of Hercules, where the Atlantic waters mingle the Mediterranean. Tarifa was the first town to be conquered by the Arabs when they invaded Spain in the eighth century and there is a distinct Moorish flavour to the walled town with its white painted house and narrow cobbled streets. Up until about fifty years ago the women of Tarifa walked around veiled.

When the countless surf shops close the nightlife begins. There are numerous traditional bars for tapas and local seafood, and a healthy selection of good restaurants. After dinner you can visit the many lively bars, chill-out lounges and discoteques.
